Midland ACS Project SEED Program:
Empowering Tomorrow's Chemists

The Midland ACS Project SEED program is dedicated to providing research opportunities for economically diverse high school students, helping them gain valuable experience in the field of chemistry. Since its implantation in 1978 in the Midland Local Section, the program has hosted hundreds of students, offering them a chance to work alongside professional chemists and researchers.

Despite facing challenges such as host sites and budget constraints, the Midland ACS Project SEED program has continued to thrive, thanks to the dedication of its coordinators, mentors, and supporters. The program has evolved to hosting several students each summer, providing them with stipends, mentorship, and hands-on research experience. In recent years, the program has seen a resurgence, with increased participation (10-14 students each summer) and collaboration with other local sections and universities. Students have had the opportunity to attend local, Regional, and National meetings, present their work, network with professionals, and gain insights into potential career paths in STEM fields.

The impact of the Midland ACS Project SEED program is evident in the success stories of its alumni. Many former students have gone on to pursue careers in science, inspired by their experiences in the program. The program not only enhances their academic self-confidence but also equips them with skills valuable for both academic and professional growth.
